Congratulation to Kaitlynn Hogan, a sixth grade student, who successfully spelled Mitochondria, the word for organelles that act like a digestive system which takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy rich molecules for the cell. In doing so, she was named champion of the 2017 Holy Cross Spelling Bee on Thursday. The runner-up was Mia Villegas, a fifth grade student and third place was Emelia Mercer, a fourth grader. The three spellers were the best of 25 contestants participating in the event. Congratulations to Kaitlynn and to all of our participants!
